Thelma Winter loves to paint old mills. She has painted the Eden Valley Mill in every season. The building, which still survives on its original site, is a symbol of the history of the Town of Eden. The Town now owns it.
Thelma did not begin her career as an artist until she was 53 years of age. Before that, the mother of four was a piano teacher for 30 years. Today she has an ongoing career spanning more than 20 years. She has won numerous awards for her work.
Thelma Winter’s artistic vision is undeniably flowery and upbeat. There is nothing fuzzy here. Her work is straightforward, hard-edged and precise. There are, however, abundant subtle plays of color and light. Her tendency toward mild nostalgia seems to be continually overruled by a sheer delight in nature. Thelma communicates her views of the changing seasons with verve; whether it is the crystal, cold, blue and white of the winter sky or the dappled sunlight playing on a summer sidewalk.
